Making All Things New

    Oct 12, 2021 | by Tom Harrison

Greetings from Israel! I’m grateful to be back in the Holy Land (we are being treated like celebrities just for showing up). We tuned in to worship from our hotel. It was wonderful. A special thanks to all those who make the online services happen. They are a great option for those who cannot worship in-person.

Asbury has been blessed to have Jim Smith, author of “The Magnificent Story,” preach twice. We look forward to having Dr. Ben Witherington preach on October 24. You are invited to his seminar on Revelation, hosted by Asbury Theological Seminary, the day before. He is a dynamic speaker. I encourage you to come. Register at: asburytulsa.org/revelation

This is our final (official) week of small group gatherings. I hear many groups are having lively discussions. I’m glad. As Christians, we should always be growing and learning. It is good to ask questions and consider different points of view. This is part of being a disciple. I enjoy preparing sermons more and more because I’m always learning something new. I hope you are too.

We cover Chapter 8 this week in “The Magnificent Story.” Jim’s sermon is helpful for group discussions. He made an interesting point about Revelation being “apocalyptic literature.” That means the first century Christians knew the Apostle John was writing about the terrible times they were living in. Chapters 21 and 22 concern future events. John was encouraging them to “hang-on” because the ending would be good, beautiful and true. That applies to us, too. Our ending will be good, but until that day comes—we have work to do. We are here to Help Others Follow Jesus.

This week’s readings relate to Chapter 8 in the book:

    Monday: Matthew 24:36-44
    Tuesday: Matthew 24:45-51
    Wednesday: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11
    Thursday: 2 Peter 3
    Friday: Revelation 21:6-27
    Saturday: Revelation 22
Sunday: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 (Living the Magnificent Story)

    Invite a friend,
