ASBURY DEVELOPMENT CENTER

WELCOME TO ASBURY DEVELOPMENT CENTER

VISION FROM PASTOR TOM

On December 18, 2009, Asbury’s Senior Pastor Tom Harrison wrote:

When our congregation relocated in 2004, my initial desire was to build a “Community Center.” In our architectural drawings, this was to be placed between our current building and Union High School. Due to a lack of acreage and a lack of funding, this was one of the very first things to be scrapped. While it may have gone from our master plan, it has never been far from my heart.

“My foundational premise is that while we will always be involved in ‘Relief and Rehabilitation’ in our outreach, our primary and systemic work needs to be rooted in ‘Development.’ This implies long-term, systemic, holistic, and relational efforts. It is part of what I think of when I hear the word, ‘Methodist,’ as the ‘Method’ behind our name is on development.”

At the core of Asbury’s DNA, we are intentional about developing people. The Development Center will allow us to help develop beyond the walls of Asbury. It will help develop families, train up future Christian leaders, and break the cycles of poverty.

Mark 12:30 states, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

VISION

The Asbury Development Center will house Christian agencies that develop the body, mind and spirit of people through education, health and security in alignment with Asbury’s mission of Helping Others Follow Jesus.
