Almost three years ago when Pastor Tom asked me to be Pastor of Women, what he was thinking and what I was thinking were two different things! I’ll bet he was thinking I would help with pastoral duties and follow up on women who needed special care. Well yes, but my thoughts went off the chart with excitement over the possibilities! I was already coordinating the LifeCare Ministries, Marriage Ministry and helping with CCM (Congregational Care Ministries). But having worked in Women’s Ministry previously, I envisioned more Bible studies, city-wide gatherings, outreach events, a mission trip, a retreat, and lots of opportunities for fun! We launched Women’s Ministries in 2019 with REVEAL: Women’s Ministry Kick-off Event and on January 21, 2022 that same event will be happening again. It’s the perfect time to be with other Asbury women, find out what’s in store for 2022, and sign up for events or to volunteer to help with leadership and/or serving as a greeter.
As it says in our Women’s Brochure: It’s a proven fact that no matter what our age, women need to be in relationship with women. We share common interests, concerns, struggles, and the ability to understand one another in a unique way. Being part of Asbury Women’s Ministries will help you connect with like-mined sisters in Christ and grow friendships that can last a lifetime.
Many of you have told me that this very thing has happened for you and how it has enriched your life but also alleviated some loneliness. I especially love how women have connected in Solo Sisters Communities (9:30 and 11). These are women who come to church alone for whatever reason—divorced, widowed, never married, or their spouse does not attend church. There are over 75 women on the roster and more to join.
I have been blessed and honored to serve here at Asbury in the various ways. I’ve laughed, cried, hugged, and prayed with many of you. Along with the Women’s Ministry Leadership Team, I have finally figured out how to set up for BUNCO and which is the head table. I have placed booklets and various other items in cellophane bags and tied hundreds and hundreds of ribbons around them. I have helped pack up every single extra goody to freeze for the next activity, and we all behaved ourselves when we got to meet Beth Moore! Whew!
I pray that as this ministry continues and as the SURVEY results come in, that we will continue to bring glory and honor to Jesus in all that we do!
